Tipping: Tipping is not part of the culture

Shopping: Most shops are open by 9 AM and close at 6 PM. Most small shops will also close for lunch. Most stores close by lunch time on Saturday and remain closed until Monday.

Food and Drink: It is best to avoid tap water and drink soft drinks. Beer is available.

Social: Most people do not speak English but are friendly and will try to help if asked.

Business: Business suits are expected. Best to have business cards in French.

Money and Banks

Banking: Banks open around 9 AM and close by 2 PM. There are no weekend hours.

Currency: 1 metical (Mt) = 100 centavos

Money Exchange: Best at banks.

Credit cards: Visa, Master Card, American Express and Diners Club.


Climate

Tropical to subtropical - The western coast is dry. The east coast is wet with the rainy season lasting from November to March. The southern area of the country is far drier than the north.
