Ocean Club Paradise Island, The Bahamas
|
The adjoining town of Nassau and gigantic sister property Atlantis exist merely to impress upon you the pampered exclusivity of the Ocean Club—at least, that's the feeling you get driving into this otherworldly resort. A low-slung collection of rooms and cottages set next to a pristine beach with water as blue as the brochure's, the retooled Paradise Island resort has the feel of a friend's private retreat—provided the friend was rich, had an insatiable appetite for marble in the bathrooms, employed four-star genius Jean-Georges Vongerichten as a private chef, and claimed Michael Jordan as a golf buddy. Though Jordan does throw quite the celebrity bash during his annual golf tournament, the vibe here is definitely understated private indulgence. Spend a morning inside watching movies on your DVD player or decompressing in the steam shower—some rooms may be bigger than your home—or melt under a masseuse's hands at one of the open-air Balinese spa villas. Then sit out a lazy afternoon on the restaurant's deck over the sand, with a Bahamian beer and Jean-Georges' take on conch fritters. Is the rest of the world still out there somewhere? Hard to remember. Doubles from $695, January through May; 800-321-3000 or oceanclub.com |
