Bitter End Yacht Club Virgin Gorda, British Virgin
|
Over the years, the aptly named Bitter End Yacht Club, the last stop before the Atlantic's great expanse, has grown from a bare-bones marine anchorage into a sleep-away sailing camp for adults. And in the process, it's developed quite a reputation among couples who seek their solace on the seven seas. Though the place offers virtually every water toy you can imagine, from diving gear to sculls, its specialty is turning first mates into proper captains. Students can show off their newly honed skills in the Sunday regatta, but those with relaxation on their minds avoid all that pesky crew-work and hire a skippered racing sloop for the day. (That way, you won't have to handle anything more rugged than wine and cheese.) Another romantic way to catch some waves: taking a day-trip to nearby Anegada island for swimming, snorkeling, and a barefoot lobster lunch, then hopping the catamaran back for a siesta on the porch of your breezy hillside bungalow. In the evening, don your best flip-flops for some alfresco dining before heading to the English Pub for late-night sipping on the yacht-speckled bay. Ahoy to that. Doubles from $575, including meals, January through April; 800-872-2392 or beyc.com. |
