Snowflakes drift like parachutes to the ground. Mountains stand like sentinels turned to stone. And trees tuck into the drifts like children just put to bed. At Solitude, located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, even Mother Nature takes it slow. The resort itself resembles a European village plucked straight out of a fairy tale. (Hansel and Gretel would feel right at home.) That's not to say the place is geared toward Sleeping Beauties—the snowboardfriendly terrain ranges from powder bowls and in-bound tree skiing to novice-friendly corduroy trails—but it's also the perfect spot for couples who long for nothing more than to hold onto a peaceful, easy feeling. There's no better path to simple pleasures than a leisurely snowshoe jaunt to The Yurt, a charming Mongolian tent (bless that amazing heating system) where the chef prepares a five-course gourmet repast from the freshest seasonal ingredients.
