Tortuga Lodge & Gardens Tortuguero, Costa Rica
|
At this riverfront eco-resort just outside Tortuguero National Park on the Caribbean coast, you don't just experience nature, you're swept into its embrace. Guest rooms are decked out with jungle prints, ceiling fans, and huge windows, but you'll soon be lured to breakfast over the water by the morning call of howler monkeys. Speaking of which, when you kayak, canoe, or hydro-bike your way through the rain forest, you're bound to make some travel buddies: three-toed sloths, river otters, toucans, parrots, and red, blue-legged frogs. (Too bad biology lab was never like this.) Should you find the time to siesta, stretch out on the wraparound veranda or next to the rock-edged swimming pool that seems to blend into the river. Dining by the dock on fresh seafood, stuffed sirloin, and homemade breads, you half expect Tarzan and Jane to swing by. They should be so lucky. Doubles from $115, December through April; 800-323-7308 or costaricaexpeditions.com. |
