True Blue Bay Grenada
You know a place is exceptional if the locals can't stay away. Every day, gregarious Grenadians stream onto True Blue Bay's restaurant and bar decks to savor coconut lobster and the serene, uncannily azure waters. In fact, it almost takes an island resident to find this resort in the first place, hidden as it is on a southwestern bluff at the end of a wobbly road. (If you're driving yourselves, get good directions.) The seclusion is only part of the allure here, where calm and color reign among soft yellow cottages with grape-colored railings and 26 spacious rooms smartly styled with polka-dot bedspreads and indigo-framed French doors. The friendly staff can arrange all your water adventures, even directing you to other tucked-away spots like La Sagesse, a mangrove estuary with palm-edged beaches and great bird-watching. That is, of course, if you can pull yourselves away from the festive cuisine and cocktail scene on what is truly Grenada's bluest bay. Doubles from $130, December through April; 866-325-8322 or truebluebay.com.
