The isle of Ambergris has become a hotbed of sorts for the barefoot-and-rumpled-shorts set that congregates in only the most casual of Caribbean outposts. Victoria House stays true to that easy spirit, renting golf carts instead of automobiles to patrons who care to tear themselves from the splendors of the Belize Barrier Reef and make the trip into town. As low-key as the atmosphere is, however, there's still plenty of emphasis on romance. Whitewashed buildings are flanked by lush green lawns, beds are shrouded in mosquito netting, and the friendly staff (especially the crew in the dive shop) will prompt you to declare an annual visit to be your very first marital tradition.
