We flew America West into LAX, then boarded a Northwest Airlines flight for Puerto Vallarta. Our customs and immigration check in Mexico was swift and without much of a slowdown. We grabbed a taxi and headed straight to the Puerto Vallarta Sheraton Hotel. The hotel lobby was open air and pretty nice. It gave you the feel of the tropics and was a sure sign that it never gets very cold in this area. The room was somewhat average, but in this location, we felt we were living pretty good and the location was great. The pool was excellent and the guests seemed to be mostly European. Our bar waiter looked like a southern Buddy Hackett and kept our juices flowing.
We ventured downtown and except for elephant sized T-shirts, there was not a lot to interest us. We did travel out of town into the country side and visited the filming location of a couple of movies. One was "The Night of the Iguana" with Elizabeth Taylor, and the other was a Jungle Monster movie titled "Predator". We enjoyed the scenery along the coast. Did a lot of lay back, ate too much, and their industrial strength, but great, Margaritas about made us permanent residents of Gringo Gulch. During checkout, I got a bill for $1,200,000 plus and about had a heart attack on the spot. I didn't know they used the "$" in front of pesos! It was fun but now Mexico is pretty much out of our system. |
