United States of America travel guide

The United States is between Mexico and Canada, with the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Pacific to the west. Canada separates Alaska from the rest of the states and Hawaii is in the central Pacific. The continental states become more arid to the southwest. The climate ranges from arctic to tropical but is mostly temperate.

The United States leads the world in industry and agriculture. The population is densest in the east. European immigrants began populating and dominating the country in the 17th century CE but native ways persist in some areas. The country won independence in 1784 and grew from a rural backwater to a world power by the 20th century.

The United States' many National Parks and National Forests provide wilderness as well as less adventurous outdoor destinations. Cities offer theme parks as well as more conventional arts, museums and sports teams. Seaside, mountain and desert resorts appeal to many. Cowboy ambience attracts visitors to the American west.
