Known all too well for its difficulties during the civil rights struggles, Alabama has moved on to become a place where all parts of the state's population enjoy all that Alabama has to offer. Its north is nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians and is dotted with rivers, waterfalls and lakes. As you travel southward along the 250 miles to the coast and the Gulf of Mexico, you pass through lower elevations which brings farms and subtropical bayous along the coast. Alabama is a pretty state with a number of well planned and maintained State Parks.
