This tiny state was once part of Pennsylvania which ended in 1776. It was the first to ratify the US Constitution. Originally settled by the Dutch as early as 1631 and soon after by the Swedes, the British took over in 1664 and ran the area until loosing the Revolutionary War. Much of the economic fortunes of Delaware are founded in the DuPont family which fleeing the French Revolution, set up shop producing gunpowder.

The weather is cold and particularly windy along Delaware Bay. Spring and fall are mild and pleasant. Summer is warm to hot, but breezes along the shore help reduce the temperature. |
