The state is quite different in its background from the rest of US states in that its heritage is solidly French. The influence is strongly prevalent in its laws, customs and way of life to say nothing of a marvelously French lilt to the accent in the Bayou. New Orleans thrives on Creole cooking and flavor of the way of life. Relaxed, laid back and yet exciting is what can easily be said of Louisiana.

Geography: The state is below sea level in the area around and including New Orleans and gains some altitude as you move northward. The northern areas have rolling hills. The Mississippi River borders much of the eastern side of the state running through it on its final led to the Gulf of Mexico.

Along the Gulf Coast, Louisiana is humid all year long. The are is hot in the summer months and usually warm and comfortable in the winter.
