The coastline of Maine is quite rugged, craggy and lovely. Except for the occasional beach, Maine shores are mostly rock which are the source for scores of poems, books and song. Bar Harbor, Kennebunkport, Oqgunquit and the shops of Kittery all have a charming glow about them that bring people back every year. Maine clambakes with lobster, corn, clams and much more are world famous. Acadia National Park is a great place to visit as part of your stay with this delightful wildlife of puffins, seal and even Bald Eagles. The interior os very different. Expect not so many roads and many more RVs. Baxter State Park is great for camping as well as many other private camping sites throughout Maine. White water rafting is popular here especially along the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.

Geography: Main is bordered by New Hampshire to the west, The Atlantic Ocean to the south, Quebec, Canada to the north and New Brunswick, Canada to the east. The state is very rocky with many hills throughout. The coastline is exceptionally rocky with not a lot of beach area but what there is is very good.

Maine's weather varies directly in distance from the coastline. Further inland, winters are quite cold and often severe particularly in the north. In the summer the interior is very warm. Along the coastline, winters are cold but usually not severe in any way. The summer, along the coast, is very pleasant. Both spring and fall are also ideal times for a visit to any part of the state. |
