Think of Mississippi and your mind wanders to the river that runs along its western borders. It's the river which bathes the shores of such charming places such as Vicksburg and Natter. The old port town of Vicksburg with its Victorian waterfront still preserves many of its Civil War canons while a short distance away, in the Vicksburg National Cemetery, are the graves of over 16,000 Union soldiers with the words "Unknown" marked over each. The ante-bellum atmosphere of Natchez with its Greek revival mansions and flourishing gardens is simply a must for any traveler to the region. Superb beaches along Mississippi's Gulf Coast are a tremendous attraction to travelers looking a blend of history and sun. It was along this coast, that now boasts shrimp and oyster boats, that Jefferson Davis spent his final years.
