Ohio Travel Guide
Once claimed by the French in 1699, the British eventually asserted their control of the area before the American Revolution turned the land eventually over to Connecticut. Ohio is a land grant state. Many of the cities and town of Ohio can find similar names in the tiny New England state. Today, although the state is dominated by the "Cs" of Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio has a varied landscape which is inviting and filled with Activities & Interests.

Capital: Columbus

Population: 10, 847, 115

Area: 44, 827

Time: Eastern Time

Geography: The state is bordered by Michigan and Lake Erie in the north, Pennsylvania in the east, West Virginia and Kentucky in the south and Indiana in the west. The state has no mountain range but is filled with undulating hills throughout.

Climate

Situated just to the south of shallow Lake Erie, Ohio is effected by "lake effect" weather. Snowfall is greatly influenced upwards by the "effect." Strong winds also come off the lake and cool in both winder and warmer months. As one travels south in the state, the altitude increases but not dramatically, so altitude does not effect the weather to any great degree.
