One can't say that they have been to the South unless they have been to South Carolina. It was the first to leave the Union during the Civil War and has retained much of the gracious atmosphere that was to be found on plantations before the war broke out. The subtropical coastline is filled with little towns and villages far removed from the rest of the world by far more than distance. Sport fishing and hunting is hard to match anywhere. Charleston is perhaps one of the most elegant cities in the Americas. Its waterfront, hidden courtyards, flowered gardens and tree lined streets give this old city a marvelous sense of tradition and rich history.
