Tennessee Travel Guide
The fiddle music of the hillfolk migrating to Nashville and other larger cites before WW I, eventually would lead to the development of country music and spark a whole wave of music in America and the world. "Elvis" would be born in Memphis and well as Urban Blues. From the mountains along the North Carolina border to the marshy lowlands along the Mississippi River, the somewhat rectangularly shaped state is only 100 miles wide and is over 450 miles long. It is not a well populated state and so much of it remains as rural as it did during the Civil War. Today you can travel for miles along many higways and not see signs of civilization.

Capital: Nashville

Population: 4, 877, 185

Area: 42, 146

Time: The eastern third of the state in the Eastern Time Zone and the remainder observes Central Time (US)

Geography: The eastern part of the state is mountainous, heavily forested with many small rivers and streams. As you travel westward the elevation decreases and the land becomes hilly to flat in some areas.

Climate

Tennessee has varied weather patterns. In the eastern areas in the mountains, the weather is mild to warm to hot in the summer months. It tends to be rainy in the early spring. In the winter the same area is very snowy and rainy as well. The western areas of the state have warm to hot summers and cool to cold winters. Spring and fall are usually delightful.
